Project Case: TOYO ELECTRIC MFG. CO., LTD Cambodia Production Base
2026-07-03
Leveraging Cambodia’s regional advantages including competitive labor costs, RCEP tariff preferences and EU EBA duty-free benefits, the project is a core overseas production deployment of TOYO ELECTRIC MFG. It focuses on lightweight, high-efficiency and durable steel structure design to adapt to local tropical monsoon climate and industrial construction standards.
In recent years, the global manufacturing supply chain has accelerated its layout in Southeast Asia. Cambodia has become a preferred destination for foreign industrial investment due to its low labor costs, friendly foreign investment policies, and convenient export tariff policies (GSP, EBA). Against the backdrop of the "Thailand Plus One" regional industrial strategy, TOYO ELECTRIC MFG. decided to build a new professional production base in Cambodia to decompress its domestic production capacity, radiate the Southeast Asian market, and reduce cross-border logistics and tariff costs.
-
Climatic Adaptation: The local tropical monsoon climate features high annual temperature, heavy rainfall and strong monsoon winds, requiring high wind resistance, rainwater drainage and anti-corrosion performance for steel structures.
-
Site & Foundation Conditions: The industrial zone site has soft soil layers, putting forward strict requirements for steel structure foundation design and load-bearing control.
-
Cost & Schedule Control: Large floor area (90,000 ㎡) requires optimized steel consumption to balance structural safety and total investment, with a controlled total steel usage of 3,000 tons.
-
Local Standard Compatibility: The building needs to comply with Cambodian industrial construction codes, ASEAN steel structure specifications and the client’s Japanese enterprise internal factory management standards simultaneously.

-
Total construction floor area: 90,000 square meters, consisting of 4 production workshops, 3 raw material and finished product warehouses, 1 comprehensive office building, and supporting auxiliary rooms (power distribution station, fire control room, maintenance workshop).
-
Main workshop single-story clear height: 12m, meeting the installation requirements of large electrical production equipment and overhead traveling cranes.
-
Warehouse area accounts for 35% of the total floor area, with optimized column spacing design to maximize storage space utilization.
-
Total steel consumption: 3,000 metric tons, including main frame steel (H-section steel columns/beams), secondary purlin steel, enclosure auxiliary steel and anti-corrosion reinforcement components.
-
Unit steel consumption: 33.3 kg/㎡, achieving a lean steel ratio for large-span industrial buildings under the premise of meeting wind resistance and load requirements.
-
Main structure grade: Q355B high-strength structural steel, reducing component self-weight while improving overall structural rigidity.
-
Anti-corrosion system: Hot-dip galvanizing + fluorocarbon paint double coating, adapting to high humidity and salt fog environment in Cambodia to extend steel service life to more than 25 years.
-
Production Area (52,000 ㎡): Dedicated to precision electrical parts stamping, injection molding, assembly and testing; equipped with dust-proof and vibration-isolating structural design for high-precision production scenarios.
-
Warehousing & Logistics Area (31,500 ㎡): Large-span column-free warehouse space, compatible with container truck access and automated pallet racking systems.
-
Office & Auxiliary Area (6,500 ㎡): Integrated office, staff training, catering and fire control supporting facilities, adopting lightweight steel frame composite structure.
Targeting Cambodia’s tropical monsoon climate, the project adopts an optimized rigid frame steel structure system. The main frame is calculated based on local 50-year return period wind load and rainfall intensity; the roof adopts a large-slope drainage design with hidden gutter system to avoid rainwater leakage. All external steel components are treated with heavy-duty anti-corrosion to resist high humidity and tropical microbial erosion.
To meet the 3,000-ton total steel consumption target, the design team implemented parametric optimization: adjusting main beam section modulus, optimizing purlin spacing, and adopting modular standardized components. Compared with conventional design schemes, it reduces redundant steel usage by 18%, realizing the balance of structural safety, engineering cost and green low-carbon requirements. The unit steel consumption of 33.3kg/㎡ reaches the advanced level of large-scale industrial steel buildings in Southeast Asia.
In view of the soft soil foundation in the local industrial zone, the project adopts a composite foundation of pile foundation + steel column independent foundation. The steel structure upper load is transmitted uniformly to the deep stable soil layer, avoiding foundation settlement caused by long-term equipment load and tropical soil expansion and contraction, ensuring the long-term stability of the precision production workshop.
The whole project synchronously complies with ASEAN Steel Structure Design Specification, Cambodian industrial building fire protection codes, and TOYO ELECTRIC’s Japanese internal factory safety standards. It realizes unified management of construction quality, fire protection grade, electrical safety and environmental protection discharge, facilitating the client’s subsequent production certification and global supply chain access.

-
Completed the delivery of a 90,000 ㎡ high-standard steel structure industrial base with the total steel consumption strictly controlled at 3,000 tons, meeting all design and code requirements.
-
The structure has passed wind resistance, seismic performance and anti-corrosion durability third-party detection, fully adapting to local tropical climatic conditions.
-
Modular construction shortened the overall construction cycle by 22% compared with traditional reinforced concrete factories, helping the client put production into operation in advance.
-
Enterprise Level: The base undertakes 30% of the client’s Southeast Asian electrical product production tasks, reducing comprehensive production and logistics costs by 15%, and improving the market response speed for ASEAN customers.
-
Local Level: The factory provides more than 1,200 local jobs, introduces advanced electrical manufacturing and steel structure construction management experience, and drives the development of supporting upstream and downstream industrial chains in the economic zone.
-
Industry Demonstration: It sets a benchmark for large-area, low-steel-consumption prefabricated steel structure industrial buildings in Southeast Asia, providing a replicable technical and cost control model for overseas manufacturing base construction.
The TOYO ELECTRIC MFG. CO., LTD Cambodia Production Base is a typical overseas large-scale steel structure industrial project. With a total floor area of 90,000 ㎡ and a controlled total steel consumption of 3,000 tons, the project solves the pain points of tropical climate adaptation, soft soil foundation treatment and dual-standard compliance through lean structural optimization, climate-oriented technical design and modular construction. It not only meets the owner’s production capacity layout and cost control goals, but also delivers social and industrial value locally. This case provides a reliable reference for the design, cost control and construction of large prefabricated industrial parks for Japanese-funded manufacturing enterprises expanding into Southeast Asia.
